Careers Information, Advice and Guidance

Over the time that your son/daughter is at Sacred Heart Secondary they, with your support, will be making a number of decisions relating to their future. We know how important and life changing these decisions can be, and this drives us to ensure that everyone receives the best possible careers education. During their time at Sacred Heart, students are involved in activities and opportunities to develop their skills and understanding of the world of work. This enables them to make informed choices for their future in line with their strengths and areas of interest.

As an academy, we have a statutory duty to provide access, for young people in years 8 – 11, to impartial, independent information, advice and guidance on careers. We are very pleased to inform you that we have our own dedicated Careers, Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) Advisor, Mrs J Wright, who is available on a daily basis to assist your son/daughter with any aspect of careers advice they require and to guide them along their individual career path.

This Provider access statement sets out the Academy’s arrangements for managing the access of Providers to students at the Academy, for the purpose of giving them information about the Provider’s education or training offer. This complies with the Academy’s legal obligations under Section 42B of the Education Act 1997.

1.       Students in Year 8-11 are entitled:

·         To find out about technical education qualifications and apprenticeship opportunities, as part of a careers programme which provides information on the full range of education and training options available at each transition point

·         To hear from a range of local Providers about the opportunities they offer, including technical education and apprenticeships

·         To understand how to make applications for the full range of academic and technical courses.

2.       A Provider wishing to request access should contact the Academy Careers Advisor via the following email address:

3.     The school will ensure an appropriate venue, AV and support is provided through the AHT with responsibility for careers.

4.       Providers are welcome to leave a copy of their prospectus or other relevant course literature for the Careers Advisor. The Careers Library is available for students at break, lunchtime and after school

Our Careers Entitlement booklet, aims to outline the opportunities your son/daughter will experience throughout their journey through Sacred Heart Secondary, however, our advice and guidance is constantly evolving to reflect the changing world of work. We aim to enable our young people to embrace opportunities for their future and to prepare them to take their place in the workforce as valued and productive members of the community.
